Municipalities in China

 

China is getting more urbanized.

In 2005, 42.99% percent of the Chinese population live in the cities. Based on the Research Report on Chinese City Population Growth, the proportion can go to as high as 70% by 2025.

There are currently four municipalities in China -- including major Chinese cities Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing.

As a whole, there are 655 cities in China in 2007, based on the statistics provided by the Chinee government.
